Soccer player Robert Lewandowski scored an astonishing five goals in nine second-half minutes as Bayern Munich thumped last seasons’ Bundesliga runners-up Wolfsburg 5-1. The forward began his assault on the Wolfsburg goal in the 51st minute and completed his hat-trick in the four minutes later before adding two more goals in the 57th and 60th minute.
Lewi, as the player is affectionately known in Germany, could have scored seven goals according to his captain Phillip Lahm. The Poland International was in white-hot form as Bayern Munich look to retain their Bundesliga title.
Bayern had fallen behind in the 26th minute after a Daniel Cagiliuri strike but Lewandowski coming in as a second half substitute made his mark in sensational fashion shattering records in the process. The night belonged to Lewandowski who scored the fastest hat-trick in Bundesliga history, in just 4 minutes. The fastest hat-trick record belonged to Micheal Toennies who scored in 6 minutes in 1991. Toennies was among the first to congratulate Lewa telling him he deserved it.’
Former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe scored 5 goals in 36 minutes when Tottenham beat Wigan 9-1 in an English Premier League match in 2009 but to underline Lewandowski’s prowess, he scored 5 goals in a mere 9 minutes, four times better. It is remembered that the same striker scored four goals in a single match when Dortmund beat Real Madrid 4-1 in 2013. He underlined his credentials as one of the most lethal strikers in the sport.
Teammates Philip Lahm and Jerome Boateng showered praises on the striker with the latter saying he was privileged to have him in his team. Bayern Coach Pep Guardiola said he was delighted for Lewandowski who ensured that Bayern Munich went 3 points clear in the league table with 18 points ahead of Borussia Dortmund with 15 points but with a game in hand.
